Both regular and associate members of the MBA enjoy a variety of valuable benefits including:
Industry advocacy at the federal and state level
MBA’s advocacy team is constantly vigilant and prepared to respond to legislative or regulatory issues that impact the broadcast industry.
FCC Alternative Inspection Program
Every three years, the MBA sends highly qualified inspectors to member stations across the state to ensure compliance with FCC rules and regulations. Stations that successfully pass the program are exempted from most FCC inspections. Our next inspection cycle begins in the late spring/early summer of 2014.
Twice-monthly MBA E-news updates
Our e-newsletter is sent by email twice each month to keep you informed of issues that affect your business.
Legislative Action Alerts/Updates
When we need to mobilize our industry grassroots, we send out alerts and updates by email to give you the information you need to communicate with your lawmakers and regulatory authorities.
MBA Legal Hotlines
The MBA offers members access to Washington, DC and local counsel who are prepared to answer basic legal and regulatory questions.
Access Minnesota radio/TV public affairs programming
A valuable benefit that provides members with free high quality programming that addresses issues that matter to Minnesotans. Access Minnesota is produced in cooperation with the University of Minnesota’s College of Liberal Arts and draws upon the expertise of their faculty who offer insights on critical issues. The program is also a forum for our elected officials, community leaders and other newsmakers. Best of all, each program is accompanied by a sheet listing the issues discussed for inclusion in your station’s public file.
Gopher Sports Update
A weekly 30-minute radio program highlighting Gopher intercollegiate athletics. Coaches, student-athletes and administrators offer an in-depth look at Gopher sports that goes beyond the headlines and scores. This is another free programming service to members.
One-day educational seminars
The MBA offers periodic seminars on issues impacting broadcasters from political advertising to EEO compliance to interactive technologies.
MBA scholarship program
The James J. Wychor scholarships are awarded annually to students pursuing studies in electronic communications.
With all of the exciting challenges and opportunities in the broadcast industry, it’s more important than ever that you receive critical information in a timely manner. The MBA’s recently launched website is your best source for up-to-date news of our industry.
Minnesota State High School League Agreement
For many years, the MBA and its members have supported the mission of the Minnesota State High School League through an annual PSA campaign. In return, participating MBA member radio stations are granted permission to air MSHSL-sanctioned sports without paying rights fees.
MBA Job Bank
The MBA maintains an online job bank and publishes a monthly newsletter listing employment opportunities that is sent to hundreds of agencies throughout Minnesota. This valuable membership benefit helps you fulfill the broad outreach requirement for EEO and exposes thousands of potential employees to your opening.
